Henry was apparently not well regarded by either his father or his father-in-law. Jacob Stier's will dated in 1815 stated : "I give and bequeath unto my son Henry Stiers five shillings to him the said Henry Stiers or his heirs and no more of my Estate." His other children received much more; Henry was effectively cut out of the estate. John Burgess' will dated October 1, 1821, leaves $300 to his daughter Nancy Stier under condition that "my executors shall not be compelled to pay unto the hands of her husband Henry Stier anything herein bequeathed to my daughter..." |
