Hamilton bought the property at 5 West Main Street from Ormond Hammond in 1839.  The Stier family was in New Market earlier, or at least had invested in lots in the town.

1798:  The 1798 tax assessment for Frederick County shows Jacob Stier owning acreage in a tract known as Littleworth in Sugar Loaf and Linganore Hundred.  My earlier guesses that Littleworth was near New Market were incorrect--Littleworth was at Sugarloaf Montain.

see my page on Littleworth

1810: Jacob Stier conveyed two New Market lots (front lot 16 and back lot 9 to John Larkin)  see Frederick County Records

1812: Jacob was involved in several Chancery Court cases involving lots in New Market.
