Son of Samuel and Ruth Cooledge, was born on 24 Sep 1747 in England. He died on 04 Apr 1814 in Putney, Windham, VT. Samuel married Abigial Sabin daughter of Noah Sabin and Mary (Perrin) about 1773. Abigial was born on 27 Apr 1752 in Rehoboth, Bristol, MA. She died on 28 Apr 1817 in Hubbardston, Worester, MA.

JOSIAH WHEAT

Josiah Wheat (Samuel, Samuel) was born on 12 Mar 1783 in Putney, Windham, VT. He died on 21 Sep 1861 in China, Lee, IL. He was buried in Palmyra Cemetery, Lee Co., IL.

Josiah was counted in a census in 1830 in Hornby, Steuben, NY. He was counted in a census in 1840 in Hornby, Steuben, NY. He was counted in a census in 1850 in China, Lee, IL. He was counted in a census in 1860 in Dixon, Lee, IL.

Josiah was believed to have settled in what would become Hornby, Stueben Co., NY in 1819. The town was later formed from Painted Post, now Corning, on the 27th of January of 1826. He was elected the first Town Clerk of Hornby on January 27, 1826.

By 1850, he and his family had removed to China, Lee County, Illinois. In 1860 he and his wife were listed as living in the household of their daughter, Augusta Paranac.

Josiah married Mary Black about 1809. Mary was born on 29 Nov 1779. She died on 11 Jun 1860 in Palmyra, Lee, IL. She was buried in Palmyra Cemetery, Lee Co., IL. Mary was counted in a census in 1850 in China, Lee, IL. She was counted in a census in 1860 in Dixon, Lee, IL. n 1860 she and her husband are living in the household of daughter Augusta Paranac.

George Henry Wheat (Josiah, Samuel, Samuel) was born on 29 Jul 1810. He died in 1840. According to the obituary of his brother Charles, "George ... went to Texas to fight for its liberty and (was) never heard from again."

George married Mary "Polly" Gibbs daughter of Rufus Gibbs and Eleanor (Farr) on 15 Jun 1833 in Hornby, Steuben, NY. Mary was born on 27 Sep 1812 in Westminster, Windham, VT.

CHARLES GREEN WHEAT

Charles Green Wheat (Josiah, Samuel, Samuel) was born on 07 Feb 1817 in Putney, Windham, VT. He died in 1902. He was counted in a census in 1860 in Steuben Co., NY. He was counted in a census in 1880 in Hornby Forks, Steuben, NY.

Charles married Isabella Coolbaugh in 1853. Isabella was born in Mar 1825 in New York. She was the daughter of William and Amelia (Loomis). LYMAN C. WHEAT

Lyman C. Wheat (Josiah, Samuel, Samuel) was born on 05 Mar 1821 in Putney, Windham, Vermont. He moved in 1828 to Steuben Co., NY. He was counted in a census in 1850 in China, Lee, IL; 1860 in Lee Center, Lee, IL; and the 1880 census living in Amboy, Lee, IL.

He moved with his parents in 1828 and lived in Steuben Co., NY where he was reared and received an academic education and then came west in midsummer of 1843 with his small family and lived for a short time on the Dixon and Chicago road working as a school teacher. He went to Lee Center in 1845 and lived there for a number of years and while there was a trustee of the academy and about nine years later, he bought out Charles Hitchcock and went into merchandising, transferring the business to Amboy in 1865 and bringing his family to live there in about 1872.

Amboy News dated 27 Sep 1884 indicates that "H.E. Johnson, one of the large farmers of Palmyra township, was at the Republican rally Thurday and staid over night with his brother-in-law, Lyman C. Wheat."

Lyman married (1) Mary Warnick daughter of James Warnick and Nancy on 20 Aug 1840 in Steuben Co., NY. Mary was born about 1822. She died on 31 Jul 1862 in Lee Co, IL. Mary was counted in a census in 1850 in China living next door to her parents in Lee County, Illinois; and she was listed the 1860 census in Lee Center, Lee, IL.

Amboy News of 1885, October 24th states that probate records list Howard Johnson to be appointed administrator of the estate of E.H. Johnson, deceased, under bonds of $300. Obituary on file indicates he probably died of heart disease.
