Galesburg, Knox Co., Illinois on 22 Nov 1859,
Ellen was the daughter of Solomon and Eliza
(Smith). At the age of nineteen, she marrried
John William Tivis, the son of Hammond and
Margaret. The
couple was married on 18 Mar 1879 in St. Clair
Co., Missouri, and they became the parents of six
children: Mary Myrtle who died in her infancy;
William Arthur (pictured top right); Emma Rose
who married Leslie Hawkins; Leonard Lace; Susan
Ann who married Thomas J. Simmons; and Alma
Bessie (pictured bottom right).
John, who was born
14 Sep 1856 in Tipton, Maniteau Co., Missouri was
a mail carrier and farmer. He died at the age of
seventy-one on 07 Oct 1927 in Nevada, Vernon Co.,
Missouri and was laid to rest at Mount Vernon
Cemtery in Walker, Missouri.
Ellen married (2)
Joseph "Jack" Collins and in 1910 they
were residing in Roscoe, St. Clair Co., Missouri.
Family records indicate that Jack passed away in
Vernon Co., Missouri on 07 Oct 1927 and had been
born in Tipton, Montineau Co., Missouri on 14 Sep
1856. Ellen passed away on 09 Mar 1939 in
Milwaukee, Wisconsin at the age of seventy-nine.
She was laid to rest at Pine Lawn Memorial
Cemetery.
Ellen's son
William Arthur was born in Tiffin, Missouri on 10
Dec 1882 and was a utility man. He married Ida
May Schell in Roscoe, she the daughter of Charles
Thomas and Olive (Orr). He passed away on 17 Jul
1957 in Watsonville, Santa Cruz County,
California at the age of seventy-four.
Alma Bessie,
daughter of Ellen and John W. Tivis, was born on
03 Sep 1897 in Tiffin. She was united in marriage
to Theobald S. Nennert in 1902 in Wittenburg,
Perry Co., Missouri. A baker and restaurant
manager, Theobald was the son of Samuel and Mary,
and passed away in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1982.
Alma, who worked as a bookkeeper, preceded him in
death on 19 Sep 1976 and was laid to rest in
Brookfield, Waukesha Co., Wisonconsin.
