Cora Adeline (Smith) & John M. Williams

Daughter of Samuel & Cornelia (Buck), Cora Adeline was born during the Civil War on 07 Jul 1862 in Warren Co., Illinois not long before what would become known as the Second Battle of Bull Run or Second Manassas where more than twenty-six thousand soldiers were either killed, wounded or missing.

She married John Monroe Williams on 03 Mar 1880 in Pettis Co., Missouri at the time the cattle business was booming in the West. Cora lived long enough to read about the death of Billy the Kid and the lynching of Cattle Kate. She died not long after the Spanish-American War and the same year Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid robbed the Union Pacific.

Cora and John were the parents of: Mabel, Julia, Fred, Charlotte, Rachel, Mary E. Williams, and possibly one other daughter. She died on 13 Sep 1899 just before the turn of the century in Sedalia, a town in Pettis Co., Missouri which prospered in its early days from industry brought by the Missouri Pacific and Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad lines.
