| Samuel
Smith, the son of Richard and Sally
(Peck), was born in Saratoga Co., New York on 18
Jul 1827. He removed to Warren Co., Illinois
where he married Cornelia Buck on 29 Aug 1849. Their first eight
children were born in Illinois, but by about 1865
or 1866 they were residing in Pettis Co.,
Missouri where Samuels brother Nathan had
gone in 1867. There Nathan had kept a hotel in
Smithton but died of Smallpox on 15 Dec 1869.
Samuel
and Cornelia were listed in the 1870 census with
their first ten children: Ryan, Roland, Alice,
Mindwell, Sidney, Seth, Cora, Charles, Norman and
one year-old Warren. By 1880 Cornelia had three
more children: Olive, Lucretia and Ira.
Samuel
died on 12 Feb 1904 in Smithon, Pettis Co.,
Missouri. His wife passed shortly after on 03 Apr
1904. They were laid to rest in Smithton
Cemetery.
