Richs album, shown on these webpages, was a
gift to her on the occasion of her marriage to
William Blakely Peters in 1861. William Blakely
Peters came from Bloomville, Delaware County, New
York. The album as presented to Hannah contained
only one picturethat of its presenter,
Stephen Struthersand Hannah added others
over the years, including a number of
Williams relatives, among them Jerusha
Peters Tallman, Moses T Tallman, and David O
Crofoot. William
Blakely Peters parents were John Peters and
Jane Blakely of Bloomville; the Jerusha Peters
shown here was Williams aunt.
There are several
other Jerusha Peters in the Peters family
genealogy, but this Jerusha Peters was born 6
December 1815 in Stamford Township, Delaware
County, New York. Jerusha married Moses Tallman
in Tully, New York, In fact, Moses Tallman (and
his mother, Sabra) appear in the 1840 census in
Tully, NY, as does Jerusha Peters brother,
Richard Peters. It is not difficult to imagine
that Jerusha might have met Moses while visiting
Richard.
Jerusha and Moses
were the parents of Sarah E Tallman; Sarah
married David O Crofoot, also pictured in Hannah
Richs album. Jerusha died on 24 Feb 1899 in
Preble township, Cortland County, New York.
About the
photographer: M G Bennett of Tully, NY, does not
appear in Craigs Daguerreian
Registry,
nor has a search of Cortland County history and
genealogy sites found any mention of him.
