Jerusha Peters Tallman Photo back of Jerusha Peters Tallman
Jerusha (Peters) Tallman
Hannah Rich’s album, shown on these webpages, was a gift to her on the occasion of her marriage to William Blakely Peters in 1861. William Blakely Peters came from Bloomville, Delaware County, New York. The album as presented to Hannah contained only one picture—that of its presenter, Stephen Struthers—and Hannah added others over the years, including a number of William’s relatives, among them Jerusha Peters Tallman, Moses T Tallman, and David O Crofoot.

William Blakely Peters’ parents were John Peters and Jane Blakely of Bloomville; the Jerusha Peters shown here was William’s aunt.

There are several other Jerusha Peters in the Peters family genealogy, but this Jerusha Peters was born 6 Dec 1815 in Stamford Township, Delaware County, New York. Jerusha married Moses Tallman in Tully, New York, on 13 Jan 1835. In fact, Moses Tallman (and his mother, Sabra) appear in the 1840 census in Tully, NY, as does Jerusha Peters’ brother, Richard Peters. It is not difficult to imagine that Jerusha might have met Moses while visiting Richard.

Jerusha and Moses were the parents of five children, their eldest surviving daughter, Sarah E Tallman, married David O Crofoot, also pictured in Hannah Rich’s album. Jerusha died on 24 Feb 1899 in Preble township, Cortland County, New York and is laid to rest at Tully Cemetery in Onondaga County, New York.

About the photographer: M G Bennett of Tully, NY, does not appear in Craig’s Daguerreian Registry, nor has a search of Cortland County history and genealogy sites found any mention of him.

Please Note: In 2005 this album came into the loving care of Hannah Rich Peters’ and William Blakely Peters’ great-granddaughter, Carolyn Flanders McPherson, and is presented here for the first time. For more detailed information on the photo album and its contents you may view the introduction here.

Patricia and Carolyn have attempted to identify all persons in the album and learn more about them through research of various records. If you can help us identify or add further information to this photo, please contact:
