Very little is
known about Maria except that she seems to appear
in the 1880 census residing in New
York City. Listed as head of household and age
ninety, her older sister Rachel Oliver - two
years her senior. According to this census
record, she was born about 1790 in New York to
parents who were natives of that state. We can
assume that since her sister Rachel is listed as
single and aged 92, that their maiden name was
Oliver.
Also
included in this household is Robert Buchan,
speculated to be the son of James Buchan and his
first wife Jane McClure. He was a soap
manufacturer along with his cousins Stephen and
Thomas Rich.
