James lived in Caledonia,
Shiawasse Co., Michigan and was the son of Betsy
Ann (Peters) and Charles Rhodes.
He
was in the 9th Michigan Infantry during the Civil
War. Shortly after the war, he married Mary
McBride, also of Caledonia, and daughter of
Robert and Caroline.
In
1889 they moved with their five children to
Arizona where most of the family has remained.
