Although nothing has yet been learned of
the parents of John "Howard" Ramsey, a
marriage record to Mary Ann Daily was indicates
they were married on 11 March 1847 in Clark Co.,
IN.Of the earliest Ramseys found in the
census records is a Joshua Ramsey who was born in
Tennessee in 1796. He appeared in the 1850 Charlestown census with his wife
Margaret (1786) who was born in Virginia, and
included in the household were daughters Margaret
age 23 and Martha S. age 17. Also listed in
their household was Nat Huckleberry age 28, and
what appears to be his two sons, Irwin age 5, and
Francis age 4. - Although Joshua does not
appear in the 1860 census, his widow Margaret
appears to be living in Jeffersonville and is
listed as a weaver.
Samuel
Ramsey, who was born in Kentucky on the 5th of
November 1797, was married on 29 August 1820 to
Eleanor Kime who was born 05 Oct 1800 in Orange,
NC and was the daughter of Henry Kime and Hannah
Rudolph. He died in Hancock, Illinois on 23
Mar 1861 and was the father of Hannah Ramsey born

James Ramsey born in Ohio in about 1805. He
was listed in June of 1860 as living in a
Jeffersonville hotel owned by a Michael Pfiester
of Germany and was enumerated as having been an
engineer.
Lastly,
all that has been learned of John Howard Ramsey
was that he was born in about 1823. He does
not appear in the census records, but his widow
Mary Ann Daily-Ramsey appears in the 1870 Clark County census in the
Charlestown household of Evan Shelby (a surname
which appears fairly frequently in the Clark
County records). She appears to be listed
with her nine year old son Harry (1861). No
other children except these two youngest have
been located except a daughter Elizabeth who was
born about 1858 and was listed with her
grandparents, David and Mary Daily in the 1870 census. Family
records indicate that John Howard and Mary Ann
had four other children, but nothing of them has
surfaced thus far.
