Edward Pilcher (circa 1870-1871)
Edward Pilcher
(circa 1870-1871)

Back of photo is penciled "Edward Pilcher." Believe this is Edward McCafferty Pilcher, son of Ezekiel & Louisa (Ballard) and twin of Eleanor.

Edward M. Pilcher and his twin Eleanor Ballard Pilcher were born in Springfield, Illinois on the 7th of March 1843. The family was residing in Springfield in 1850 but by 1860 Edward was living in St. Louis with his widowed mother and siblings. Two years later on August 20th, he married Mary Jane Dwyer and they had two children Caroline Alesina and Rose.

In the 1870 census Joseph and William, both toddler sons of his brother Joseph "Warren" are residing with him in St. Louis where he is living next door to his twin sister, Eleanor, wife of John K. Burden. It's possible that his brother was in New Orleans at the time.

On 08 Oct 1872 he married Sarah C. Tice of Fulton Co., Pennsylvania, and continued to reside in St. Louis where he was listed in his usual occupation as a carpenter in the 1881 city directory. At that time he was boarding at north side of Page Ave. near Taylor Avenue.

Edward died in about February 1884 and is believed to be buried in St. Peters Cemetery.
