The daughter of William
Blakely Peters and Hannah (Rich), Sarah was born
in Kortright on 20 May 1872. She graduated from
Delaware Academy in Delhi in 1898. Sarah wanted
to be a nurse, but her father considered it an
unfit profession for young ladies, only one step
above "The Theater."
She
met William Hendry Hickok while he was boarding
at their house in Bloomville and working for the
rail road. They were married in Bloomville in
1897 and became the parents of Hannah Rosella,
Howard Peters, and Benjamin Blakely Hickok. After
the death of her father they removed to Otsego
Co., New York and lived on Elm Street.
"Sadie"
(as she was known to friends), died in January
1954 and was buried in Oneonta.
