Born in
Harpersfield, New York on the 21st of
September, he came with his parents,
Richard and Polly (Wilcox), to Monroe
county when he was just a toddler.
In 1845 he
married Mary J. Holmes, daughter of
Benjamin and Minerva (Howe), and they
were the parents of four children,
two surviving to adulthood: Helen
Frances, & Richard George Peters.
The Hon.
George Peters was repeatedly honored
with offices, holding the office of
Supervisor for ninetten years. He was
a member of the Michigan House of
Representatives in 1861 and 1862, and
of the State Senate in 1867 and 1868.
He represented the Seventh Senatorial
District of Michigan.
According to
his obituary,
George passed away at his home in
Petersburg at the age of 90, a very
well respected man in both Monroe and
Lenawee counties, and was laid to
rest at Pleasant
View cemetery in
Summerfield Twp., Monroe Co.,
Michigan.
