Richard Peters III
1797- 1862
Son of Richard & Susannah (Halstead)
Richard was born in
Stamford, Delaware Co., New York on 13 Mar 1797.
He married Mary "Polly" Wilcox in that
place on 26 Jan 1820.
They migrated to Michigan in
1824 along with their three eldest children:
Frances, George and John. Richard purchased about
600 acres from the U.S. government in Monroe
County, and in 1834 deeded some of his property
to the railroad investors who platted a village
of 41 blocks and named it Petersburg after him.
He was the first postmaster of the village of
Petersburg and held the office from 1826-1845.
After the death of his wife
Polly in 1834, Richard married as his 2nd wife,
Orissa Baker in 1837. Richard died on 05 Mar 1862
in Petersburg, Michigan.

Charles F. Peters
1826- 1893
Son of Richard and Mary
"Polly" (Wilcox) who came to Monroe
county, Michigan in 1824. Charles is said to have
been the first white child born in Summerfield
Township. He and his brother John married
sisters, Julia Ann and Ellen Burnham - daughters
of Calvin and Mary Ann (Bruce).
His marriage to Julia took
place in Michigan on 15 Nov 1848. They became the
parents of seven children: Herbert who married
Anna Huston; Edmund who married Julia Weatherwax;
Mary and John who died in infancy; Richard who
married Margaret Reed; Dora; and Charles Peters
who also died in infancy.
Charles died in Petersburg
on 06 May 1893 and his wife Julia on 03 Jan 1901.

Julia Ann Burnham
1827- 1901
Daughter of Calvin and Mary
Ann (Bruce), Julia Ann was born in Franklin Co.,
Massachusetts in the town of Montague on October
27th. Her family came to Monroe County, Michigan
when she was about ten years old.
She married Charles Peters
on the 15th of October 1848, and her sister Ellen
married John Peters in 1864.
She passed away in
Petersburg, Michigan on 03 Jan 1901.

Herbert Dwight
Peters
1849- 1910
Son of Charles and Julia
(Burnham), Herbert Dwight was born in Steuben,
Indiana. He married Susanna Huston who was born
in Hillsboro, Illinois on the 12th of January
1854.
They were the parents of:
Charles Bruce, Robert, Grant, Mary Jewel who
married Earl Milton Bragg, and Julia who married
Clyde Beker. All the children were born in
Monticello, Piatt Co., Illinois where both
Herbert and Susanna were laid to rest.
Anna died on 18 Jan 1894 and
Herbert on 21 May 1910.
