Photographed here on her
79th birthday in 1888, Sarah was the daughter of
Richard and Susannah (Halstead). Born on 28 Sep
1809 in Stamford, Delaware Co., New York, she was
one of the first persons to study geography in
that county and also learned to do exquisite
needlework while at school.
She
married John D. Blakey in Tully, Onondaga Co.,
New York on 06 Jul 1837. John was born on 19 Oct
1809 in Kortright, and was the son of William and
Nancy (McDonald). Sarah and John were the parents
of four children: Richard, Nancy who married
Ezbon Bower, Susan J., and Helen Jerusha who was
the wife of George Rowland.
Remembered
as an ardent Bible student and interested in
current events, Sarah passed away in Genoa,
Cayuga Co., New York on 07 Apr 1897 at the age of
eighty-seven years, six months and ten days.
