Judge Elias H. Peters (Thomas M., Samuel, Richard) was born on 22 Nov 1841 in Clifton Park, Saratoga, New York and reared at the old Peters Homestead. He attended schools of his neighborhoods and academies at Jonesville, New York and Poultney, Vermont. Leaving school at the age of 18, he entered the law office of Mr. J.A. Schondy of Saratoga Springs. In the early spring of 1863 he was admitted to the bar and immediately began a successful law practice in that town. In 1877 he became Surrogate of Saratoga county which he held for many years.

His wife, Abba J. Carpenter, was born in 1840 and was the daughter of John Allen Carpenter and Jane (Bingham). They were listed in the 1850 census residing in Saratoga - Abba's mother, Jane (Bingham) was living with them at the time. Abba died in 1898, and Elias in 1909. They were buried in Greenridge Cemetery in Saratoga Springs.

Jerusha Ann Peters (Richard, James, Richard) was born on 22 Jan 1816 in Johnstown, Fulton, NY. She married Henry Godwin on 28 Apr 1838 in New York, he having been born on 23 Dec 1807 in New York. In 1860 they were enumerated in the census records residing in Johnstown, Fulton Co., New York where Henry was a carriage maker. Jerusha died 20 Jul 1904.

They were counted in a census in 1850 and 1860 in Johnstown, Fulton County, New York. George died on 20 Jun 1889 in Johnstown, and Hannah died on 05 Apr 1902. They were buried in Staley-Peters-Ercanbrack Cemetery.

They were enumerated in a census in 1850 in Stratford, Fulton, NY, and later in the 1880 census for Delta, Eaton, Michigan and were the parents of at least Franklin Stafford who was born about 1856 in Michigan.
 
 
Betsey Clement (Phebe Peters, James, Richard) was born in 1835 in New York, and was counted in a census in 1850 in Stratford, Fulton, NY. She married William Heller who was born about 1833 in New York and remained living in Stratford until at least 1880.

Catherine "Caty" Plank (Amy Peters, James, Richard) was born on 13 Oct 1818 in Montgomery Co., NY. She married (1) David Zeely Vrooman on 21 Sep 1837 in New York, he having been born on 02 Mar 1814 in Johnstown, Montgomery Co., NY. David died in 1846 in Marshall, Calhoun County, Michigan and in 1850 and 1860 Catherine was living in Fulton County, her postal address in 1860 listed as Rockwood. It is possible (according to the 1860 census), that David's mother was Margaret who was listed with Catherine and her two sons as age 66. Catherine died on 20 Feb 1892 in Johnstown, Fulton, New York and was buried in Johnstown.

Family notes indicate that Catherine later married John Dusek.

He married Nancy Frederick who was born in December 1819 in New York and died sometime between 1900 and 1910 in DeKalb Co., Illinois. They were counted in the 1850 Johnstown, Fulton, New York census, and later in the 1860, 1870, and 1880 DeKalb Co., Illinois census records.

Cephrona Rhodes - (Betsy Ann Peters, James, Richard) was born 18 Oct 1835 in Halfmoon, Saratoga, New York. She eunerated with her family in the 1850 census where they resided in Lee, Calhoun Co., Michigan. On 12 Oct 1851, she married John Wagner in that town and in 1860 their family included their three sons. She died in Corunna, Shiawassee Co., Michigan on 12 Aug 1864 and was laid to rest at Pine Tree Cemetery.

Her widower, John, was the son of James Wagner and Sarah (Peck) and was born 03 Jan 1819 in Geneva, Cayuga Co., NY. He was listed in the 1850 census prior to his marriage residing in Marengo Twp., Calhoun Co., Michigan. A marriage record for John and Clarissa A. Walker indicates they were married on 01 Jan 1879 in Lee, and in 1880 they were listed in that township. John died on 13 Jan 1912 and is laid to rest at Oakridge Cemetery in Marshall, Calhoun Co., Michigan. (Parents James and Sarah are buried in Johnson Cemetery in Marshall)

  2. John S. Wagner - born 1855 in Michigan; married Lucina Wagner in Lee, Calhoun Co., Michigan and were the parents of Cora Elna, wife of Orion E. Walker; and son Jacob who was born in 1881 and died 19 Mar 1898. John died in Lee on 27 Mar 1898. John, Lucina and Jacob are laid to rest at Townsend Cemetery in Marshall, Calhoun Co., Michigan. Daughter Cora is buried at Oakridge Cemetery.
  3. James Reuben Wagner - born 09 Nov 1859 in Michigan; believed to have married Wilhemina M. "Mina" (McMillan) in Marshall on 31 Oct 1880. He and Mina were the parents of eight children: Vernon Glenn; Mark; George W; Howard A; Hazel; Sophrona; Deforest; and Irene, wife of Arthur Wagner (son of Elgin and Hattie). James died 21 Nov 1897 in Calhoun Co., Michigan and was laid to rest at Oakridge Cemetery.
  4. Estella Wagner - born 1863 in Michigan; married to Hiram Nelson Sturgis in about 1879. They were enumerated in 1880 where they resided in Lee, Calhoun Co., Michigan and were the parents of Almon L. who married Mary (Turner), the daughter of R. Turner and Sarah Billings.
 
Charles E. Rhodes - (Betsy Ann Peters, James, Richard) was born 03 Apr 1840 in Michigan. He married Mary E. Sawyer in Fenton, Genesee Co., MI on 01 Jan 1868. Mary was the daughter of Benjamin and Nancy and was born in Tyrone, Michigan in about 1849. They were enumerated in the 1870 census residing in Fenton. Mary died 20 Jul 1879 in Bay City, Bay Co., Michigan.

James Peters Rhodes [ PHOTO ] (Betsy Ann Peters, James, Richard) was born on 03 Apr 1842 in Near Gloversville, New York. He was in the Civil War, served in the 9th Michigan Infantry and on 06 Dec 1868, he married Mary McBride in Coruna, Michigan. She was the daughter of Robert McBride and Caroline J. (Davids) and was born on 14 Apr 1846 in Caledonia, Shiawassee, Michigan. (See the 1850, 1860 census extractions for Caledonia, Shiawassee, Michigan)

In 1880 the family was residing in Flushing, Genesee Co., Michigan and James was listed as a photographer. It would appear from the gap in Willie's age (8) and Lina's (3), that Ray and Robert were both born prior to 1880 and both passed away as infants as they are not listed in the 1880 census and family records indicate five children moved with the family to Arizona in 1889. Mary, wife of James and mother of the children, died on 04 Mar 1891 in Phoenix. James died on 07 Dec 1931 in Phoenix, Maricopa Co., Arizona and was buried in nearby Tempe.

Between 1880-1910 the family was residing in Elbridge, Oceana Co., MI. Phebe died in 1939 in Lansing, Michigan.

Olive Estella Rhodes - (Betsy Ann Peters, James, Richard) was born 30 Jun 1857 in Michigan. she married Morris M. Derr in Corunna, Shiawassee Co., Michigan on 02 Jul 1874. According to his obituary, Morris was the son of John Derr and Deborah Ann "Anna" (Miller), and was born in New York in 1850. According to her obituary, Olive died at her home after a long illness on 16 May 1921. Her husband, Morris, later resided with his daughter where he was enumerated in her household in 1930. He died on 15 apr 1943, and both were laid to rest at Pine Tree Cemetery.

  1. Albert T. Derr - born March 1878 in Michigan; married as his 2nd wife, Erwina M. (Eveleth) on 09 Apr 1913 in Corunna, Shiawassee Co., Michigan, their marriage record indicating she was the daughter of Julius B. Eveleth and Anna E. (Palmer). According to her obituary, she was born in Caledonia on 18 Sep 1888 and died in Owosso on 12 Mar 1975. Albert's first wife, Delia L. Shepard was born in Michigan in May of 1880 and was the mother of Ruth A, born 1897, Olive, born 1899 and Frank L. Derr born about 1903. Albert died in Owosso, Shiawassee Co., Michigan on 06 Jan 1959 and according to his obituary had been a supervisor from the Second Ward and was buried at Pine Tree Cemetery with Masonic rites.
  2. Neva E. Derr - born 02 Apr 1891 in Michigan, and married Verner A.L. Evans in Owosso on 22 Nov 1910. Verner was the son of Alvin Evans and Sarah Abigail (Wallace), and were the parents of at least three children: Marguerite A. Evans who was born 28 Feb 1912 and died of pneumonia from the Influenza on 29 Jan 1920; Irene who was born in 1915 and according to her mother's obituary, was the wife of Harold Bond; Alvin M. Evans, who was born 09 Aug 1916 and died just two days before his sister on 26 Jan 1920. Neva died on 05 Dec 1986. The family was laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery in Owosso.

Abram Adee (Elizabeth Peters, Richard, Richard) was born on 24 Apr 1808 in Weaver Hollow, Delaware, NY. He married Nancy Austin, daughter of Samuel Austin, on 28 Oct 1834 in Delaware Co., New York. Nancy was born in New York in about 1809 and died in February 1869 in Delaware Co., New York.

Abram and Nancy were both enumerated in the 1850 and 1860 census records - listed as residing in Andes, Delaware Co., New York.

Katherine was born in 1843 in New York, died in 1910 and was buried in Archibald Cemetery, New Kingston, Delaware, NY. She had been counted in a census in 1850 in Andes, Delaware, NY listed as age seven, their household name spelled Parsells. In 1860 she was listed s 17 years living in the household of Mathew McCabe. Jousha Joshua died 21 Oct 1922 in Delaware Co., NY and was buried in Union Grove Cemetery, New Kingston, Delaware, New York. He had been enumerated int he 1850 and 1880 census residing in Andes. Joshua married (2) Mrs. Calvin Davis.

Sally Ann Adee (Elizabeth Peters, Richard, Richard) was born on 12 Jan 1810 in Weaver Hollow, NY. She married Benjamin Connor on 17 Sep 1840. Benjamin was born about 1811 in New York and died before 1880 in Andes, Delaware, NY at which time Sally was listed in her son Charles' household.

She began the first millinery business in Andes in 1824 in the Upper Hotel, and Benjamin had erected the first blacksmith shop in Andes in 1845 which later burned. He was listed in the 1850 census as a blacksmith, and in the 1860 as a merchant.

He may have married (1) Jane Pherson on 25 Dec 1837 - she died at the age of 18 years 5 months and 10 days - and may have had a son Benjamin who died 26 Mar 1841 at the age of 3 years, 6 months and 12 days.

David was born on 12 Feb 1809 in Hubbell Hill, Delaware, NY. He died on 02 Feb 1890 in Hubbell Hill and was buried in Dimmick Cemetery, Arkville, New York. They had been counted in a census in 1850 and 1880 residing in Middletown, Delaware, NY. Ester died on 15 Nov 1887 in Hubbell Hill and was also buried in Dimmick Cemetery.

She was counted in a census in 1850 in Andes, Delaware, NY listed as age 16, and later enumerated in the 1880 census residing in Tompkins, Delaware, New York. On 27 May 1854 she married Henry M. Austin in Lyden, Rock Co., Wisconsin. Henry was born in Cannonsville, Delaware, NY on 01 Dec 1827. He was the son of Alexander and Deborah (Dean), and brother of Alfred., William, Adaline, Julia, Clarinda, Huldah, Polly, and Theophilus. [ Bio of Theophilus Austin ]

Elizabeth Adee [PHOTO] (Elizabeth Peters, Richard, Richard) was born on 09 Apr 1835 or 1836 in Weaver Hollow, Delaware Co., NY. Listed as age 14 in the 1850 census with her parents, and four years later she married James Hopkins [ PHOTO ] in Rock Co., Wisonsin. James was born in Sussex, England on 12 Mar 1827 and was a son of John Hopkins and Sarah (Green). He had left England and gone to Canada as a young boy with his family and settled in Durham, Ontario. In 1848 he emigrated to Rock County, Wisconsin and purchased a farm in Center Twp. where he began developing a farm. He became breeder of English Shire, Cleveland Bays and Yorkshire Coach horses which he had imported from England and was also bred shorthorn cattle.

The continued to reside in Center, Rock Co., Wisconsin where they were enumerated in the 1880 census with their three children. [James Hopkins Biography]

He married (1) Rebecca Maynard on 02 Jan 1839 in Delaware Co., NY, she having been born about 1814 in New York. They were enumerated in the 1850 census records residing in Davenport, Delaware Co., New York. John married (2) Mary Case.

Sarah "Sallie" Peters (Daniel, Richard, Richard), twin of John, was born on 30 Oct 1814 in Harpersfield, Delaware, NY. She married Elisha E. Sheldon there on 24 Mar 1835 in Kortright, Delaware, NY, he having been born in Kortright, Delaware, NY on 16 Jan 1811.

They moved to Ohio in 1835 and were were members of the Baptist church where they resided in Penfield. Census records list them residing there in 1850, 1860, 1870, and 1880. Sallie died on 04 Feb 1883 and Elisha on 18 Sep 1885. They were laid to rest at Penfield Cemetery.

He married (1) Statira Patchin daughter, of David Patchin and Hannah (Adams) on 20 Nov 1835 in Harpersfield, Delaware, NY. Statira was born on 21 Mar 1819 in Harpersfield, and died 15 Nov 1867 in Penfield, Lorain, Ohio. Richard died 09 Nov 1883 in Penfield, and both were laid to rest at Penfield Cemetery.

They were enumerated in the 1850, 1860 and 1880 census records residing in Penfield. After Statira's death, Richard married (2) Mahala King on 04 Dec 1870. Mahala was born on 25 Aug 1823 in Ohio and died 17 Oct 1878 in Penfield. She was also buried in Penfield Cemetery.

Note: Kleinheinz's book indicates Mahala's last name was Whitbeck - perhaps the name of a first husband.

Norton was born on 13 Oct 1837 in Auburn, New York and died in Wellington in 1922. He was counted in the 1860 census residing in Penfield.
  2. Howard Peters - born 27 Nov 1842 in Harpersfield, Delaware, NY; died on 10 Nov 1846 in Harpersfield.
  3. David J. Peters - born 24 May 1845; died 04 May 1910.
  4. Susan H. Peters - born 21 Mar 1849; died 31 Aug 1850 in Penfield, Lorain, OH.

She married Archibald McLean, son of Charles McLean and Jane (Grant) on 21 Nov 1838 in Harpersfield, Delaware, NY. Archibald was born on 17 May 1813 in Stamford, Delaware, New York. They were enumerated in the 1850 census residing in Stamford, and in the 1860, 1870, and 1880 census records as being residents of Penfield, Lorain Co., Ohio. Cornelia died in Penfield on 11 Jan 1893 and Archibald on 30 Jun 1903. They were buried in Penfield Cemetery.

James Sutton Peters (Daniel, Richard, Richard) was born on 12 May 1821 in Stamford, Delaware, NY. When he was three years of age, his parents moved to a farm in Harpersfield, on which farm he resided for the remainder of his life. He married Hannah Patchin, daughter of David Patchin and Hannah (Adams) on 21 May 1849 in Delaware Co., NY. Hannah was born on 25 Mar 1827 in Harpersfield, and was the granddaughter of Isaac Patchin who was a prominent patriot in the Revolutionary War. Along with several others, Isaac was taken prisoner and marched to Niagra by Brant, the Indian Chief.

James and Hannah were enumerated in the census records residing in Harpersfield in 1850, 1860, 1870, and 1880. James died in Harpersfield on 09 Feb 1893, and Hannah on 28 Jun 1904.

  3. Daniel W. Peters - born 02 Jun 1855 in Harpersfield; Delaware, NY. He married Caroline E. Buck, daughter of David S. Buck and Adaline J. on 10 Nov 1879 in Harpersfield and in 1880 was listed in the census records residing with her and her parents. Caroline was born 13 Aug 1861 in Harpersfield and died 07 Mar 1924 in Harpersfield. , Delaware, NY. Daniel died on 16 Mar 1946 in Harpersfield, and both were laid to rest in Stevens Cemetery, Harpersfield, NY.
