Within the ancient
settlement of Carmunnock, which is
associated with the early Christian
missionary Saint Cadoc, the parish church
contains beautiful examples of stained
glass by by Norman Macleod MacDougall.
MacDougall was born in 1852
and spent 18 years as chief glass painter
to Cottier & Co in London. He then
returned to Glasgow and established his
own studio, and as a free-lance designer
worked for John and William Guthrie,
Glass-stainers located at 232 Sauchiehall
Street. He also taught stained glass at
the Glasgow School of Art.
MacDougall, who
died in 1939, was also the first teacher
of stain glass at the Glasgow School of
Art.
