ADDITIONAL NOTE:

All of these letters pertain to the Mossman Ancestry and the lost fortune in Berwick Upon Tweed, England. It appears that the estate was never recovered, although several of the family members, grandchildren, attempted to claim the fortune.

Isaac claimed that "during his father's lifetime he spent a great deal of money on the Estate business and he also had Henry Clay of Kentucky to look after it when he was minister to England."

With this noted, a few brief notes regarding Henry Clay follow:  He was born 12 Apr 1777 in Hanover Co., Virginia to a middle-class family. After studying for the bar with the eminent George Wythe, he moved to Lexington, Kentucky at the age of twenty where he developed a thriving practice. He married into a wealthy and socially prominent family and soon gained entry into Kentucky's most influential circles. While still in his twenties, he was elected to the State Legislature, in which he served for six years until 1809. He was a U.S.

Statesman, Secretary of State under John Quincy Adams, and an unsuccessful candidate for the U.S. Presidency in 1824, 1832, and 1844. He was one of the most popular and influential political leaders in American history and it was his genius in the art of compromise, which three times resolved bitter political conflicts that threatened to tear the nation apart, thus winning him the title "The Great Pacificator."  He died in Washington D.C., on June 29, 1852.
