JOSEPH MORSE, son of Joseph and Grace (Warren), was bornn 27 Sep 1691 in Watertown, Middlesex, MA. He married Abigail BARNES on 01 Nov 1716 in Marlborough, MA. Abigail was born in 1695 and was the daughter of John and Hannah. She died on 05 Sep 1741.

Joseph's will mentions wife Joanna, sons Joseph, Stephen and Abner, to the latter of whom he gave land in Leicester, and daughters Elizabeth, Abigail, Dinah, Miriaim and Dorothy. He died on 22 Jan 1756.

JONAS MORSE, son of Joseph and Grace (Warren), was born on 25 Jul 1703 in Marlborough, MA. He married Lucy EAGER, she born on 17 Jul 1707 and died on 28 Sep 1802. Jonas died on 10 Feb 1779 - his date of birth is calculated upon age at death - 95 years, 2 months, and 11 days.

DEACON JONATHAN MORSE, son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Sawtel), was born on 11 on 10 Feb 1704. He died in March of 1801. He had been brought up by Benjamin Nurse of Framingham, who had become his stepfather. He was a cordwainer who bought on 1 Jan 1729/30 of Joseph Buckminster, the land known as the Freeman farm, where he built a home and lived the remainder of his life. He also owned a right of land in "Sudbury Canada" now Jay and Canton, Maine.

Jonathan married Mary CLAYES daughter of James CLAYES and Mary on 16 May 1734. Mary was born on 01 Oct 1712 and died on 27 Mar 1785 in Framingham, Worcester, MA.

It can be noted that Benjamin's mother was Rebecca (Towne) prior to her marriage to Francis Nurse. She and her sister Mary (wife of Isaac Estey) were hanged for witchcraft in the Salem Witch Trials. Their sister Sarah, wife of Peter Clayes, manged to escape and later lived at Danforth's Farm which later became the town of Framingham.

The home of Sarah and Peter Clayes, which was built about 1693 still stands but is boarded up and unoccupied. Over the past year a group of local concerned citizens have gathered to save the Clayes house and hopefully gift the property to an organization such as the Framingham Historical Society and Museum.

  8. Asa MORSE - born 24 Feb 1748 in Framingham, Middlesex, MA; died about 1838. Asa married Susan EAMES.

  9. Nathan MORSE - born 28 Feb 1750; died on 08 Oct 1841.

JONATHAN MORSE, son Joseph and Abigail (Barnes), was born on 02 Dec 1721. After the birth of their first child, Sylvanus, Joseph and family removed to Boylston where they had other children.

ABNER MORSE, son Joseph and Abigail (Barnes), was born on 05 Nov 1727 in Marlborough,MA. He moved to the part of Leicester which would later be part of Paxton, but returned to Marlborough. He married Kezia STOW daughter of John STOW and Elizabeth BRIGHAM on 27 Nov 1755, she having been born about 1733. She died on 17 Jan 1823 in Marlborough, MA. Abner died 03 Jun 1810 in Marlborough, MA.

  3. Stephen MORSE - born on 14 Dec 1759 in Leicester, MA. He went to Marlborough to live with his uncle when he was a young boy. He married Rebecca HOWE on 01 Nov 1786.

  4. Keziah MORSE - born on 11 May 1762 in Leicester, MA.
 

JONAS MORSE, son of Jonas and Lucy (Eager), was born on 17 Mar 1736. He married (1) Mary WARD on 29 Nov 1759. Mary died on 26 Dec 1777.

After the death of his first wife Mary, Jonas married Nanne HOWE on 11 Jul 1781. He died on 01 Dec 1799 and his widow Nanne died on 03 Nov 1814.

WILLIAM MORSE, son of Jonas and Lucy (Eager), was born on 26 Feb 1738. He served in the military, was a lieutenant in Captain Daniel Barnes company which marched in pursuit of the British on the 19th of April 1775 in Massachusetts.

William married Phebe STEVENS on 28 Feb 1765. He died on 26 Jun 1802, and his widow Phebe died on 26 Aug 1814.

  1. Anna MORSE - born 04 Jan 1767; she married (1) Jonathan Crosby; and then a Mr. Kendall.

  2. Aaron MORSE - born on 27 Jul 1769, he married Sarah Felton, daughter of Archelaus, and settled as a trader in New York. He died while on buisness at New Orleans.

  3. Phebe MORSE - born 15 Dec 1771; she married William STOW on 31 Mar 1796. She married (2) Rev. Dr. Puffer of Berlin in 1812, he having died in 1829. Phebe died on 12 Jan 1856.

  4. William MORSE - born on 27 Nov 1774; died in 1777.

  5. Moses MORSE - born 13 Jun 1777; moved to Ripley, New York.

  6. William MORSE - born on 17 May 1781; married Lucinda Stow and moved to Hillsborough, New Hampshire.
 
NATHAN MORSE, son of Deacon Jonathan Morse and Mary (Clayes), was born on 28 Feb 1750 in Framingham, MA. He resided in Alstead, NH after the war until about 1820, and then removed to Ontario County, New York where he lived in Canadice. He married Elizabeth STEVENS on 15 Mar 1772, she having died on the 18th of December 1841 in Alstead, Cheshire, NH, not long after Nathan's death on the 8th of October.

  3. Nathan MORSE - born 20 Jan 1777; died on 20 May 1831.
  4. Sarah or Sally MORSE - born on 18 Apr 1779. She married Andrew Beckwith in 1799 and was also a claimant for back pension benefits of her father Nathan Morse.
  5. Susanna MORSE - born on 18 Apr 1781.
 
MOLLY MORSE, daughter of Deacon Jonathan and Mary Clayes, was born on 25 Nov 1752. She married William Arnold of Framingham, he having been born in 1743 in Dedham, Middlesex, MA. He died in 1813 in Framingham, Middlesex, MA. (Information is not yet verified)

He married Polly FISHER daughter of Jonathan FISHER and Phebe THURSTON in 1800 in Concord, Essex, VT. Polly was born on 18 May 1783 in Alstead, Cheshire, NH and died 05 Feb 1864 in Roxbury, Washington, VT. - Nathan died on 20 May 1831 in Roxbury, Washington, Vermont and both were buried in Westside Cemetery. Nathan was listed as age 67 of New Hampshire in the census of 1850 Essex Co., VT with his daughter Marianne's family (William H. Danforth).

Susanna married John ADAMS in 1806 in Alstead, Cheshire, New Hampshire. John was born about 1780 in Massachusetts. He was counted in the 1850 Canadice, Onatario Co., NY census, listed in the household of William S. Doolittle, age 34 of Vermont, along with his wife Susan (Morse).

MARIANNE NICHOLS MORSE, daughter of Nathan and Polly (Fisher), was born on 16 May 1824 in Concord, Essex, VT. She married William H. DANFORTH, son of David DANFORTH and Paulina RICHMOND, on 08 Jan 1843 in Concord, Essex, VT. William was born on 04 Jun 1819 in Franklin Co, NY and died 03 Dec 1872 in Saratoga, Winona, MN.

Marianne was counted in a census in 1850 Essex Co., VT. Her husband purchased 80 acres E 1/2 NW 1/4 of section 20, twp. 23N, range 9 in Portage Co., WI on 1 Sep 1856 and 80 acres SE 1/4 SE1/4 of section 8 twp 21N, range 6E in Portage county, WI on 01 Oct 1858. While in Wisconsin, the family was enumerated in the 1860 Adams Co., WI census. They moved to Minnesota and were then enumerated in the 1870 Winona Co., MN.

After her husband's death in 1872, Marianne was listed as head of household in the Village of Saratoga in the 1880 Winona Co., MN and had her grandson, Charlie Powers living with her. By the time the census was taken ten years later, the Danforths had gone to North Dakota where Marianne was enumerated in her son Willie's household in the 1900 Barnes Co., ND census living in Baldwin Township. She died on 20 Sep 1908 in Weyborn, Saskatchewan, Canada where she had with son Frank to a farm situated between Holbright and Hume.

NATHAN ADAMS, son of Susanna (Morse) and John Adams, was born on 01 Nov 1809 in Cheshire Co., NH. He moved to Armada, Macomb County, Michigan in in the fall of 1834 and setlled in Section 13. He was the first township clerk, served as Justice of the Peace, and was treasurer of the Agricultural Society. He died in Armada on 12 Sep 1872.

Nathan married Margaret A. SMITH, daughter of Isaiah who was a native of Orange Co., NY, on 13 Oct 1833. She was born on 26 Dec 1811 and died on 27 Dec 1880 in Armada, Macomb, MI.
