All
photos taken in St. Louis, Missouri. Bottom left
she is pictured with her only child, Clarence
Lane. Bottom right was taken on the grade school
graduation of her only granchild, Mary Jeanette
"Jeanne" Lane. Jeanne graduated from
Arlington School on 12 Jun 1956. Although a
single mother most of her life, Granny worked
hard at the City Sanitarium and saved to buy
Jeanne's dress for this occassion. Pictured left
to right: Mae Lane, son Clarence, granddaughter
Jeanne, and sister Mabel Jones.
Shortly
after Jeanne graduated she left St. Louis and
moved with her family to Phoenix, Arizona. She
corresponded with Granny Mae and her dad, and in
1957 or 1958 was able to take a bus back to St.
Louis where she visited and also went to Chicago.
Granny and Clarence were also able to make it out
to Phoenix before they passed away. Granny Mae
passed away on 06 Jul 1965 and less than ten
months later her son Clarence passed away on 30
Apr 1966.
Unable
to attend either funeral in St. Louis for
financial reasons, the loss of Jeanne's granny
and her dad was always a great heartache. She
held them close in memory and was always
recalling the stories Granny Mae had told her.
