Son of Joseph Moore & Jane S. (Grubs) |

- Isaac, the
son of Joseph and Sarah (Grubbs), was
born about 1833 in Clarion County,
Pennsylvania. He came to Collinsville,
Illinois with his parents in about
1844.
-
- His father
started a blacksmith shop which was
located on North Goethe Street and began
making cowbells. According to T.A. Moore's
Reminiscences, Joseph had sent for his
brother James to assist him in making the
cowbells and in 1847 the James Moore
family left Harrison County, Ohio and
came to Collinsville where the two
brothers began the cowbell shop.
-
- After the
death of Joseph in 1852, Isaac took over
his father's cowbell factory which
prospered mightily and the Civil War when
the drovers began making National City
Stock yards a thriving place. In 1876
Isaac sold the business to Christian Blum
who had come from Germany and previously
owned a business which had supplied tin
roofs for buildings.
-
- Isaac married
Julia Caroline Slayback in Collinsville
on the 23rd of March in 1854. Julia, who
had been born in Illinois in about 1838,
was the daughter of Solomon and Elly
(House).
-
- Aside from
being a blacksmith, Isaac was also a
wagon smith, businessman and civic
leader; and was the last village
president of Collinsville, serving two
one-year terms from 1870-1872. He resided
at 214
E. Church Street in Collinsville, and died
in 1895 and was buried in the Glenwood
Cemetery in Collinsville on the 21st of
May.
