| A versatile woman, Mom was
a lover of nature, literature, and history. On
camping trips she often read to us the westerns
of Zane Grey and Louis Lamour, and loved the
historical novels like Gone With the Wind, Doctor
Zhivago, Evergreen and Forever Amber. Like her
great-grandfather, Thomas Anderson Moore, who was
also born on October 31st, she was a writer and
seeker of knowledge. She wrote emotional and
thought-provoking poetry, and over the last
twelve years, read story after story, chapter
after chapter of all I wrote and sent her - and
was always my greatest fan and editor.
As a
young girl she was introduced to the opera and
ballet by her Granny Mae and continued to enjoy
these throughout her life, but I suppose she
loved even more the beautiful outdoors. She
was able to fish with the patience of a saint or
sit quietly for hours and watch the deer,
squirrels, and birds as if in envy of their world
- in what she called "Gods
Country."
I think
when most people think of Mom, they think of her
sparkling eyes and magnetic personality which
made others immediately comfortable with her. I
used to laugh the way within an hour, she'd know
a stranger's life history, and they'd feel as if
they'd known her forever.
She was
generous with her compassion and advice and was a
gentle and tender woman who could care for the
sick and soothe the heart-broken. She was to
many, a friend - but for Victor and I she was a
devoted and loving mother who gave to us Love,
Security, and Happiness - the things she most
cherished in life.
She was
not with us long enough, but she has left us
memories and a legacy. She has passed on to me
the stories told her by Grandma Laratta and
Granny Mae; and for many years the two of us had
been outlining a novel from the Civil War letters
of her great-grandparents which we have always
called Lara's Legacy in honor of her only
grandchild, my daughter Lara. - Mom, I hope to
one day finish this, and thank you with all my
heart, for the stories of your childhood
youve written and shared which Ive
already begun to pass on to Lara whom I know was
your Star, and the Sunshine of your life.
Family
and Friends - I know that in some way my mother
touched your life and made it better; but now the
time has come that we release her and let her
soar with the angels. Though she leaves us here
and we mourn this loss, be comforted in knowing
that when you see the twinkling of a star, hear
the whisper of the wind in the pines, feel the
morning sunshine kiss your cheek or the moon
envelope you in its glow - When the rains pour
down from the heavens above, you are being
touched by the memory and the soul of Mary
Jeanette Lane - who Lived, Laughed and Loved.

The World Stood
Still
The
world stood still,
birds stopped in their flight
The trees bowed down to a glorious sight
The Lord returned as he had prophesied-
And all men cut to equal size
the end has come for the greater mass ...
For very few, eternity at last
For those who were true,
a new earth is born ...
A heaven of bliss that has no scorn-
His promise was that of no
sorrow or pain,
Sight for the blind, no canes
for the lame.
All things beautiful and whole
as should be -
This was the promise for you and me.

An Informal Obituary
From the Heart
of Jeanette's daughter
Patricia Davidson-Peters
| Born in St. Louis,
Missouri, Jeanette was the only child of
Theresa Laratta and Clarence Lane.
Although her parents later divorced, she
never lacked for love or attention as she was
raised in the homes of both her grandmas,
surrounded by her aunts, and would forever
cherish those childhood days and memories. At the age of
nine, her mother married Virgil Baugh also of
St. Louis, who was the father of three
children from a previous marriage to Ann
Miller. Thus, Jeanette who once was an
only child, now had two brothers, Robert and
Gene, and one sister Joy who remained living
with her mother.
While
living in St. Louis, Virgil
"Bud" Baugh, answered an ad for
AiResearch in Phoenix, Arizona, and in 1957
moved the family, including Jeanette's new
baby brother Gary, from St. Louis when she
was fourteen.
Phoenix
was a far cry from the cultural society of
St. Louis she had been accustomed to, but
Jeanette soon made life-long friends with
Sharon Godbehere-Graham and Sandy French who
helped her adjust and make the desert city
her home.
Introduced
by Sandy French and Butch McNabb on a blind
date at the Arizona State Fair, Jeanette met
Victor Delano Davidson, the son of V.W. and
Constance (Neagle) on a blind date and they
married two years later. Their children
who were all born in Phoenix are: Victor
Gene, Patricia Ann - and Darlene Davidson who
was born and died on October 3, 1962 and was
laid to rest in Glendale at Resthaven Park
Cemetery.
As a
young woman, Jeanette was a Brownie and Girl
Scout leader. She began bowling and
carried the average of a professional bowler,
but never considered leaving her family to
pursue this as a career or life-long dream.
She
worked at a variety of occupations. She
kept the books for Vic who was a cement
contractor for many years, worked for an
insurance company, and was office manager for
Ace Hardware stores. She attended
Glendale Community College and LaVonne's
Classic Beauty College where she and her
daughter Patricia received their manicuring
licenses. She later was self-employed
and cleaned homes in Sun City where she
offered her time, kindness and compassion to
the elderly. In more recent years she
received her certification as a nursing
assistant, and was the caregiver of her
younger sister Sally's children.
Jeanette
passed away on November 4, 1999 and was laid
to rest in Glendale at Resthaven Park
Cemetery. She is survived by her
mother, Theresa (Laratta) Baugh of Glendale
and step-father, Virgil A. Baugh; son Victor
Gene Davidson of Glendale; daughter Patricia
Davidson-Peters of Cottonwood; granddaughter
Lara LeeAnn Peters of Cottonwood; brothers
Robert Baugh of Springfield, OR; Gene Baugh
of Oakley, CA; Gary Baugh of Minden, NV;
sisters Joy Freeman of St. Louis, Missouri;
Sally Penoyer of Glendale, AZ; and Bonnie
Peffly of Phoenix, AZ.
Jeanette
was the aunt of many, but knew most all of
them well and held them dear to her heart,
spending time especially with the children of
her younger brother and sisters: Gary Jr.,
Daniel, Darrell, and Andrea Baugh - of the
Gary & Michele (Merva) family; Michael
& Derek Gilbert and Charlie & Angela
Penoyer - children of her sister Sally;
Travis, Misty, David Jr., and Trevor Peffly -
children of her sister Bonnie. To these
she offered hugs, love, her home, and words
of encouragement and inspiration.
A
loyal friend, she stayed in touch with many
and was a friend when they needed or wanted
to share their joy. Of her longest
& dearest friendships that truly lasted a
lifetime - Sharon Graham and Mom were never
out of each other's hearts or lives and
Sharon was with her in her last hour, passing
her love for my mother, on to me. Sharon -
thank you more than words can say - for being
there and for loving Mom so dearly.
To
all that sent prayers and words of comfort -
I thank you on behalf of my family. And
for those who knew and loved my mom - rest
assured, she is with us always and dwells in
the heart of each and every one of us.
