in Grayson County, Virginia on 31 August 1810,
Margaret was the daughter of Christopher Anthony
Ballard and Eleanor (Mossman). The family moved
first to Ohio and then Springfield, Illinois
where Margaret married Samuel C. Meredith in
1829. Samuel
was the son of John Wheeler Meredith and
Elizabeth (Busby). He and Margaret's first two
children (John Ballard Meredith and Mary J.
Meredith) were born in Miami County, Ohio and
died in their infancy. They afterwards had sons
William Morton and James H., and daughter Emily
Ellen who were born in Centerville, Wayne Co.,
Indiana.
Meredith
Nicholson, seated on his grandmother Margaret's
lap, was the son of Emily Meredith (1842-1915)
who married Captain Edward Nicholson in 1865. He
was born in Indiana on 09 Dec 1866 and became a
noted Indiana author. He wrote approximately 30
novels and several magazine articles, and the
photos above were featured in an unknown and
undated news article apparently featuring his
works.
