| Born
in St. Louis, Missouri on the 31st of
October, Jeanne was the center of her Granny
Mae's world and was surrounded by aunts and
uncles who adored her and cousins who teased
and loved her. She was the only child of
Clarence and Theresa (Laratta) Lane, but when
her mother remarried in 1952, Jeanne's world
changed forever. No longer called
Jeanne on account of her new step-brother
Gene, she relished the idea of having two
brothers so close in age and surprised when
her mother became pregnant when she was
thirteen.
When she was
fourteen her step father Bud Baugh moved the
family (which now included Bob, Gene, and
baby brother Gary) to Phoenix, Arizona. She
said that when she arrived she found the
Valley of the Sun to be "prison
like" with its barrier of mountains
surrounding the small and awkward
agricultural city.
After meeting
on a blind date at the Arizona State Fair,
Jeanette continued dating Vic Davidson and
they were married in 1959. They had son
Victor, daughter Patricia, and baby Darlene
who passed away a few hours after her
birth.
This was the
beginning of several years in which she
suffered deep losses. The loss of her infant
daughter in 1962, her beloved Granny Mae in
1965 and her father Clarence in 1966.
Jeanette was
versatile - loving hunting, fishing and
camping as much as poetry and reading.
She was intelligent, articulate, warm, kind
and caring; and was a devoted friend
and mother. She was with us far too
short a time, but remains forever within our
hearts and thoughts. I love & miss
you, Mom!
