Johnson was the eldest child of Harvey and
Mary. He was born in Lee County, Illinois on
13 April 1850. He married Emma Bovey
(1852-1932), daughter of Daniel Bovey &
Martha (Brubaker) at her parents' home in
Woosung, Ogle County, Illinois on 24 Dec
1872, the same day Emma's sister
"Callie" (Caroline) married David
Holly. DeForest
and his family went to Cherokee County, Iowa
in 1875 and settled in Pitcher Township until
1889 when he moved to Cherokee. In 1909 he
moved to Alta and lived near his son, but
returned to Cherokee in 1909. He and Emma
were the parents of: Ina Bell; Howard; Della
E.; Myrtle Estelle; Chester Harvey; Frank
Preston; and Geneva Margaret Johnson.
It should also
be noted that in 1900, George F. Holly, son
of Callie and David, was listed as a 23 year
old boarder and farm laborer in the household
of Franklin F. Johnson living in Wadena,
Minnesota. He and Grace Johnson, daughter of
Franklin who was born in December 1879, were
married the following year.

Franklin
Fremont Johnson, son of Harvey and Mary, was
born in Palmyra, Lee County, Illinois on 19
Dec 1855. He married Ida May Rand, the
daughter of Jeremiah and Tryphenia (Brown) in
Woosung, Ogle County, Illinois on the 1st of
November 1876. They resided in Lee County
where their first three children (Fred, Grace
& Raymond) were born. By 1884, they had
removed to Cherokee County, Iowa where the
remainder of their children (Sophie, George,
Maude & DeForest) were born. Dates of
death for Franklin and Ida are not known,
although in 1930 they were residing with
their son DeForest in Valley City, Barnes
Co., North Dakota.
