  James
The following is the ancestry of William James who married Elizabeth "Lizzie" Daily, daughter of David Wise Daily and Mary (Shirley) Daily.

The following information is compiled mostly from the research work and files of David James, a descendant of the James family of Clark County, Indiana. My speical thanks to David for contacting me and finally filling in the blanks.

Prior to his email in 2004, I had known very little about the James family and had not located Lizzie with William James in the census records. I now know the reason is that William had died not long after his marriage to Lizzie.

Other James families which I did locate in the census records were Bartlett James who was born in North Carolina in about 1811.  He was located as early as 1840 in the Clark County Federal Census with his wife and three small children.

In 1850 the family was living in Utica Twp when the census was taken on October 28th.  Bartlett James was listed then as a 39 year-old farmer with wife Margaret age 37 born in PA; Isabella age 17; John age 14; daughter Frances age 8, William P. age 5 (too young to be Lizzie's husband - she was listed as age 12 in 1850); Martha E. age 4; and Josephine age one.  Also listed was 70 year-old Susana, possibly Bartlett's mother who was born in Virginia.

Still living in Utica Twp in August of 1860, Bartlett is listed as a 49 year-old farmer; his wife Margaret age 47; William age 16; Josephine age 11; and Emma age six.  Also listed in the household is 41 year-old John James who was born in North Carolina.

William James, had been the only other James I located. He was enumerated in the 1860 census living in Jeffersonville Twp with his 34 year-old wife Sarah who was born in Pennsylvania. Their children were Lora B. age 6; Lulu age 4, and Belle age two.

Thanks to David, I now know this is the same William James. His first wife, as shall be noted further, was Sarah or Sallie Mayberry and the following is his ancestry.
