Family of David C. Holly (1843-1920)
Top Row (Left to Right): Robert, George, Harry
Bottom Row (Left to Right): David, Vernie, Annie, Caroline

Son of David Ayres Holly & Eva A. (Hoke), both of Pennsylvania, was born in Dixon on 01 Jan 1843, approximately eight years after his parents came to Franklin Grove, Lee County, Illinois from Ohio where they had farmed and their first two children, William D.F., and Jesse B. Holly were born.

Between 1836 and 1840, two more children were born to David and Eva: Amos H., and Cornelia A. Holly. After the birth of their fifth son, David, the father purchased 720 acres in Palmyra Township in Lee County, in the year 1845 - the same year their son George was born. His birth was followed by a daughter, Emily, in August of 1849.

David Clayton Holly (pictured above with his wife & children), was married in Woosung, Ogle County, Illinois to Caroline (Bovey), on 24 December 1872, the same day her sister married DeForest Johnson. Both were the daughters of Daniel & Martha (Brubaker) Bovey and DeForest was the son of Harvey & mary Jane (Wheat).

David and Caroline's first child Anna (Annie) was born in about 1874 and married Ira Dull; son George was born in Lee County, Illinois in 1876 and married Grace Johnson, the daughter of Franklin and Ida Mae (Rand); son Harry was born about 1879; daughter Vernie was born about 1881 and married Clifford Mills; and youngest child Robert was born about 1883 and married Ethel Grace Larson of Otter Tail County, Minnesota.

The family was enumerated in the 1880 Lee County, Illinois census in Palmyra (Caroline Bovey was also listed in Buffalo Twp., Ogle Co., IL in 1870 prior to her marriage to David). The family was later listed in the Iowa State Census in 1885 living in Cherokee County, Iowa.

David Clayton Holly passed away on 15 August 1920 in Hewitt, Todd Co., MN. His widow, Caroline, passed nearly twelve years later on 10 June 1932. Both were laid to rest at the Hewitt Cemetery as was their son George and his wife Grace (Johnson) who both lost their lives in a tragic house fire on 28 February 1955.
