| Born in New York in 1914,
Benjamin was the son of William Hendry Hickok
(1871-1937) who was a railroad conductor on the
Ulster and Delaware Railroad. He had met his
wife, Sarah Peters, while boarding at their home
in Bloomville. Sarah Peters was the
daughter of William Blakely Peters who had been
born in Stamford and came to Bloomville at the
age of twelve, this being about 1849. At the age
of twenty-one, he entered into mercantile
business at Bloomville with Samuel McCune, under
the firm name of McCune & Peters, and the
following winter was elected Justice of the
Peace.
Sarah's
mother, Hannah (pictured above with Benjamin),
was the daughter of James Rich and Jane
(Southard) of South Kortright. She married
William Blakely Peters in Delaware County, New
York in the year 1861.
