Hannah was born in Grayson County, Virginia to a Quaker family who were of the first to remove to Wayne County, Indiana where Hannah and her husband George later followed after selling their land in Grayson in 1828.

While in Center Township, Wayne County, Indiana, George and Hannah bought land between 1829 and 1830 and were enumerated in that census before selling their land in 1831 and moving about Indiana living in Jefferson and LaPorte counties before moving to Mercer County, Illinois in 1838 where they settled in Keithsburg and lived in that area for about fourteen years.

Two years after being enumerated in the 1850 census in Mercer County, Illinois, Hannah removed with her husband and children to Hardin County, Iowa.  They settled in Eldora, located in Tipton Township and lived there the remainder of their lives.
