 
The Fouts living in
Washington Twp which were located in the 1850 and
1860 census records, the elder being Lewis/Louis
Fouts, a farmer, who had been born in North
Carolina in about 1778. His wife Sarah had
been born about 1785 and died before 1860.
Living with them in 1850 was 25 year-old Dougan
also a farmer who was born in IN and 19 year-old
Clarinda. In 1860 the family of
Thomas and Clarinda FOUTS is listed in New
Washington Twp as: Thomas, age 35, farmer with
real estate $10,280 and personal estate worth
$3,600 who was born in Indiana; Clarinda age 30;
Eugene age 10; Lewis N. age 6; Allen W. age 3;
the elder Lewis Fouts (apparently the father of
Thomas) age 82; and Jacob D. Fouts, age 19.
An elder Jacob
Fouts who was born in North Carolina about 1782
and was probably the brother of Louis, appeared
in the 1850 census in Washington Twp. The
census enumerated the end of October listed him
as a 68 year-old farmer with wife Mary age 62,
born about 1788 in North Carolina, and 21
year-old John C. Fouts who was born in Indiana. -
The family was followed and located in the 1860
census taken the 26th of August and listed Jacob
then as a 78 year-old farmer with real estate
valued at $12,670. His wife Mary is also
still living, listed as age 72.
The dwelling
preceding Jacob's household, is the family of
John C. Fouts who was born in Indiana in about
1829. John C. Fouts is listed as a 31
year-old farmer with his wife Hester Ann age 23
who was born in Indiana in about 1837, one
year-old Luella, and 16 year-old Eliza Fouts.
The other Fouts
who all resided in Washington Twp were: Hamilton
or Edward Fouts (name difficult to read) who was
born in North Carolina in about 1804. He
was listed in the 1850 census as a 46 year-old
farmer; his wife Martha age 36 born in IN; Isabel
age 16; Mustow? age 13; Mary J. age 11; Jacob age
9; Eliza H. age 5; and Hamilton age three.
Thomas D. Fouts
who was born in Indiana in about 1819 was also
listed in the 1850 census with his wife Lilia who
was born about 1823 in Indiana and their children
Jacob age 3; Andrew J. age 5; and Mary also age
3.
L.D. Fouts who was
born in Indiana in 1824 and appears to be the son
of Hiram (1808) was listed in the 1860 census
with his wife Mariah who was born about 1831 in
Germany. Also listed in their household is
52 year-old Hiram Fouts; John F. Crove age 17 a
college student; Joshua Tuell a 20 year-old farm
laborer; Henrietta Fouts 14 years of age; and
Elizabeth Neitz age four.
