| No longer standing due to a
fire in 1914, it is believed that this
school house was the first in Pettis
County and was erected in 1870. Almost square and
two stories high with a railing around
the top, its second floor was used for
the high school which Edward Smith
"E.O.S." and his siblings
attended.
E.O. (most
probably a senior at this time) was short
and can be seen in this 1894 photo just
below his initials standing in the back
row.
