| After
living in Livermore, the family removed
to Fort Collins, Colorado where they
first lived on Riverside Drive. Hattie,
however, loved the trains and so they
selected the area on Mason street. Here,
the railroad tracks ran down the street
just west of the house. The home had a
grape arbor across the back of the
property and they grew a small patch of
sweetcorn behind the house. Hattie wanted to be
buried by a road so she could watch all
the cars go by, so when she passed away
on 20 May 1964, she was laid to rest in a
plot by Highway 14 in Riverside Cemetery.
Her husband Edward "E.O." Smith
died on 23 Dec 1971, nearly six years
after he was widowed.
