"Nelson" and Mary "Catherine"
(Deale) and sisters to Henry, Hattie and Sarah
both married sons of Samuel Smith & Cornelia
(Buck). Prior to their marriages, they resided in
Hancock, Illinois in 1860 where they were
enumerated with their parents in Sonora Township
in June. By 1870 the family was
residing in Smith City, Pettis Co., Missouri and
on 08 Mar 1874 Sarah married Ryan Smith and were
the parents of Eddie, Ada, Myrtle and Norman
Smith. Both daughters died at a young age.
Sarah
died at only forty-one years of age on 11 April
1896, and her husband Ryan died two months and 18
days later on the 29th of June leaving Norman to
be raised by their eldest son Eddie.
Sarah's
sister Hattie lived to be over 88 years old. Born
during the "Panic of 1857" Hattie
married Roland (the younger brother of Ryan) when
he was almost twenty-five and she was twenty.
They were married in Smithton on 10 Jan 1878 and
were the parents of at least eight children:
Alvey, Nelson, Carrie, Arthur, Ida, Albert, Leo
and Teddy Smith.
Hattie
lived through some very depressed times as well
as those filled with inventions and discoveries.
She passed away on 19 Jul 1946. All four were
laid to rest in the Smithton Cemetery in Pettis
Co., Missouri.
