| The son
of Philip Daily and Mary (Wise), David is said to
have been the first white child born in
Charlestown, Clark Co., Indiana. His birth took
place on 16 Aug 1798. In 1818, at the age of
twenty years, he married Mary A. Shirley on the
30th day of August at the family homestead. His
wife, born in Kentucky had met many of the
notable men such as Governor Jennings, Lafayette,
Daniel Boone, Charles Beggs and Charles Nailor
who had laid out Charlestown. They were the
parents of eleven children: William Harrison;
Rebecca J.; Indiana Clark; Mary Ann; David Wise;
Louisa Jane; Minerva A.; Lizzie; Seth and Thomas
Hart Daily.
David
died in Charlestown on 29 Aug 1878 and his wife
Mary on 23 Mar 1897.
