| According to
Aaron Mossman's military papers, he was age 21,
five feet 9½" tall with a light complexion,
blue eyes, red hair and was born in Shelby Co.,
Indiana. He enlisted in that state at Kokomo, for
a period of three years on the 19th of June in
1861. He
was taken prisoner on 07 May 1862 at the Battle
of Sommerville Heights in Somerville, Virginia
when their regiment, under the command of Colonel
Foster, along with the 1st Vermont Cavalry drove
back the Confederate forces to miles back to
Dogtown. Reinforced with a larger army, the
Confederates were able to push the Federals back
to Columbia Bridge.
Captured, Aaron
was taken to Richmond, Virgnia where he was
confined until the 11th of May at which time he
was paroled. Discharged by the authority of the
War Department, Aaron was mustered out at
Washington on 22 May 1862.
