| Clempson Moore is
believed to be the son of Isaac & Elizabeth
(Cook) Moore and was born about 1838 in Harrison
Co., Ohio where in 1850 he was living in North
Township. In 1860 census records indicate he was
living in New Philadelphia, Tuscarawas Co., Ohio
and was mustered in at Camp Meigs by Capt.
Belknap in September of 1861. He served as a 2nd
Class Musician for the 51st Ohio Volunteer
Infantry in Companies F & D. In August of
1862 he was discharged and may have been living
in Stark Co., Ohio in 1870 where he was listed as
a hotel bartender in a hotel owned by John &
Rebecca Combs. Enumerated with his was 22
year-old Elvira and nine month-old Morris who was
born in September of 1869. In 1880 a Clempson Moore
was residing at the Richmond Hotel owned by Job
& Sarah Richmond which was located on West
High Street in New Philadelphia. At this time
Clempson was listed as widowed, and nothing
further is known of him except that he was laid
to rest at Maple Grove Cemetery where a headstone
marks his Civil War service.
