William Francis Crites

Son of George & Mary (Mygrants) Crites
 

Born in Dover, Ohio on 13 Apr 1838, Bill was a carpenter who married Catherine Moore, the daughter of Issac and Elizabeth (Cook) on 09 Jun 1861. Less than six months later he joined the 80th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He was a private in Company C and fought in fifteen of the hardest battles of the Civil War and at least 25 skirmishes, some of which were the Seige and Battle of Corinth, Mississippi, the Yazoo Pass Expedition, the Seige of Vicksburg, the Battle and Seige of Atlanta, and was also t the Seige of Savannah.

He served for three years and three months and afterwards returned to the trade of carpenter. He was the father of William, George, Wealthy, Charles, Emmet, Clara and Harvey Crites.

His wife Catherine passed away on 08 Jan 1919 at the age of seventy-seven. William passed away at the age of eighty-seven on 08 Jul 1925 in Dover where he had lived all of his life.
