emigrates to the colonies, arriving in Boston on
the 18th of September on the "Griffin"
accompanied by his brother-in-law Rev. Zechariah
Symmes (who later became minister of Charlestown)

daughters ranging in age from six to sixteen. His
wife, Elizabeth Symmes has perished nearly five
years earlier in Aspall, Suffolk, England in

and had been a surveyor who set out the

General Court, the body of which renamed
"New Towne" to Cambridge and made the
first appropriation for the etablishment of
Harvard College. |

known as "Father of Billerica", and
serves as Town Clerk, Deputy to the General
Court, and Chairman of the Selectmen. His
services as surveyor are in demand all over MA
and later preserved in the state archives. |
