Hills, Commissioner of Revenue signed this tax
list, which reports 911 "white tythes",
8 blacks under 16 and 80 over 16 - none listed in
any of the above households, but the rate taxed
for a slave was .44 each. There were 1571 horses
listed at a rate of .12 each. - It should also be
noted that some families listed in earlier and
later tax lists, and presumably should be in
Grayson County at the time, are not listed. |

Virginia Tax List

The 1810 Federal Census
for Grayson county, VA was burned in 1814 by the
British during the War of 1812. Grayson county
encompasses the present territory as well as what
is now Carroll county which was established in
1842 from Eastern Grayson county. The land owned
by the Ballards, is now in Carroll county,
situated on Chestnut Creek. *William Hill was
married to Hannah Ballard in 1815 (Sister of C.
"Anthony" and daughter of William &
Elizabeth Anthony-Ballard).
