Solomon Slayback, Sr.
02 August 1753 - 28 April 1814

Married Sarah Hoagland in about 1773 and was a Revolutionary soldier who served with the New Jersey Militia. Sometime between 1793 and 1795, he took his wife Sarah and their nine children to Fayette County, Kentucky where he was accompanied by his brother William and Martin Hoagland, a carpenter and possible brother of Sarah.

He later crossed the Ohio River into Hamilton County, Ohio and here he is laid to rest along with his wife Sarah.

23 Aug 1756 - Abt 1828
Wife of Solomon Slayback, Sr. (1753-1814)

When Joyce visited this cemetery Sarah's stone was broken in half. She called the office, spoke with caretaker and requested a repair. He made a rough repair of the stone, which was photogaphed by a Slayback cousin who visited the cemetery shortly after the repair was made. All other tombstone photos were taken by Joyce M. Franz.

Phoebe (Day) Slayback (1794) - 1819
Phebe (Day) Slayback
Abt 1794 - 25 Jan 1819
First Wife of Solomon Slayback, Jr.

Phebe married Solomon, Jr., son of Solomon. Sr. and Sarah (Hoagland) on the 16th of April 1818 in Hamilton Co., Ohio. She died in Butler Co., Ohio. It is theorized that she died giving birth to a son who appears to have survived, but nothing more of him is known. For more information about this theory, see the Abraham Slayback narrative - the section labeled "Another Theory."

Solomon then married Elly House in Butler County, Ohio on the 21st day of December 1820. Sometime before 1850, Solomon, Elly and their seven children moved west to Madison County, Illinois.

Solomon died there 31 December 1871 and Elly not long after. They were laid to rest at the Glenwood Cemetery in Madison County, Illinois.
