The son of Winslow and Averilla (Gatewood), he was born in Fayette Co., Illinois, where he married his wife, Rhodia Oliver, on March 5th 1863.

He and his wife Hannah were the parents of James Waldo, Dennis Elwood, Albert Otto, Edward Kay, Mary Ann, William Theodore, Ella Idell, "Nellie," Francis Henry, Alpheus Elmer, Alvertus "Bert", Richard Claude, Effie Mae & Harry Robert Pilcher.

Thomas R. Gatewood

Born in Essex Co., Virginia in about 1781, he married Margaret Kay on 10 Aug 1803 in Fayette, Kentucky. He died in Vandalia, Fayette Co., IL on 11 September 1856. They were the parents of at least two children: Averilla and Thomas A. Gatewood.

Margaret (Kay) Gatewood

Born in Essex Co., Virginia on 07 September 1781, she was the wife of Thomas R. Gatewood and mother of Averilla who married Winslow Pilcher; and Thomas A. who married Nancy Woolsey.
