BEVERLY WILLIAM JAMES
1791 - 1879
Beverly James was born in Faquier Co., Virginia on April 14, 1791. He removed to Mason County, Kentucky when he was about fourteen and there married Matilda Day on 28 Nov 1817. The family moved to Bloomington, Indiana in 1823 and five years later to Charlestown where he practiced medicine. He started the publication of the "Statesman and Clark County Advertiser" and was at one time the Associate Judge of the Court of Quarterly Sessions.

Dr. James was widowed less than a year when he died in Jeffersonville on 26 Aug 1879. His son, William James, was the husband of Elizabeth "Lizzie" Daily, daughter of David W. Daily and Mary A. (Shirley). [Obituary]

MATILDA (DAY) JAMES
1797 - 1878
"Precious in the sight of the Lord are the death of his saints."
Born July 10, 1797 in Mason Co., Kentucky, Matilda was twenty years old at the time she married Beverly W. James. His wife for sixty-two years and a faithful member of the Christian Church, Matilda died of dropsy at their home located on the corner of Fulton and Maple streets in Jeffersonville. Her time of death came at the age of eighty-two on 11 Oct 1878.

She left her husband and children Dr. W. W. Goodwin, Mrs. Dan M. Austin, Plez James of Jeffersonville, Morris James of Liberty, Missouri and a large circle of friends to mourn her passing.
