RICHARD SMITH
1795-1840 |
| Born about 1795, Richard was
the husband of Sarah (Peck) and father of
Mindwell Terpening, Eliza Wait, Abijah,
Nathan, Richard, Samuel, Solomon and John
B. Smith. Note: Richard's headstone is
the first one seen when entering the
cemetery.

SARAH (PECK) SMITH
1796-1842 |
| Sarah Peck, daughter of
Abijah Peck and Mindwell (Close), and was
born on 28 Feb 1796. Her father was born
in 1758 and served in the American
Revolution. A weaver by trade, he moved
from Connecticut to Galway, New York
around 1785 where he set up his loom
shop. In about 1790 he established a
Baptist society in Galway, serving as its
first deacon and often preaching. In 1794
he moved Abijah moved his family and
weaving shop to Clifton Park Center and
founded the Clifton Park Center Baptist
Church. According to the county
clerk's record book in Warren Co.,
Illinois, Sarah died on 10 Apr 1842. Her
headstone, however, reads 12 Apr 1842 in
the 47th year of her age.
