| Located on
Pleasant Street in the City of
Charlestown, the cemetery remains
well-maintained and is the final resting
place of many of the early pioneers,
including Daily descendants and the first
governor of Indiana, Jonathan Jennings. Thanks to
Laura Boyer Talbot who photographed the
following Boyer headstones in 2007, and
special thanks to Mike Hensley who has
contributed his photographs and videos of
Charlestown Cemetery to this site over
the years.

MARY
(ROWE) BOYER
1789 - 1849 |
| The wife of John
Boyer (1782-1835), Polly was born in
Bourbon Co., Kentucky on 26 Jan 1789 and
married there on 15 Apr 1806. They were
the parents of ten children: James; Eliza
Jane; Mary Ann "Polly"; Sarah;
Letitia; William; John A.; Eli M.; Andrew
J.; and Margaret Boyer. Although
no photo of a headstone is presented here
for her husband John, he was also buried
here and died in 1835. Her headstone
simply reads: Mary, wife of John Boyer,
died Aug 21, 1849, Aged 60 yrs. 6mos.
& 26 days.

JAMES BOYER
1808 - 1896 |
| Son of John Boyer
and Mary (Rowe), James was born in
Bourbon Co., Kentucky on 01 Mar 1808. His
marriage to Charlotte Temple (Daily),
daughter of Philip Daily and Mary (Wise),
on 21 May 1829 is recorded at
Jeffersonville, Clark Co., Indiana and
was also included in the names of the
Boyer Bible Record. Charlotte died in
1896 and is presumed to be buried in the
Boyer plot next to her husband and
children. The above monument is inscribed
with the names of James who died 25 Apr
1896 and two of their children, David W.
and Maggie J. Boyer. |

| The son of James
A. Boyer and Charlotte Temple (Daily),
Philip was born in Charlestown on 12 Mar
1830 and most probably named after his
maternal grandfather Philip Daily. He
married Catherine "Kate" Long
on 12 Dec 1850. They were the parents of
at least Willis, Eva and James H. Boyer.

KATE (LONG)
BOYER
1830 - 1872 |
| Inscription
indicates Kate was born on 21 Sep 1830
and was the daughter of A. Long. The year
of her death is chipped off from the
damaged stone, but records indicate she
she died 08 Feb 1872. She married Philip
Boyer on 12 Dec 1850 and was the mother
of at least Willis, Eva, and James Boyer. From this
information, it is believed she is the
daughter of Avery Long who was born in
Scott Co., Kentucky on 07 Feb 1808 and in
1816 came to Clark County, Indiana. He
married Mary Goodwin (daughter of Judge
Willis Wallace & Kate Holland) in
1829 and Kate is believed to have been
their only daughter. A son, Willis, is
believed to have died as an infant. After
his wife's death on 04 Jan 1838, Avery
married again in 1851. His second wife
was Sophia Bottorff who was born 05 Nov
1820 and died 19 Apr 1909. They were the
parents of Martha Jane, wife of James H.
Peyton and son John Elisha Long.

| William
Francis Boyer was born in Charlestown,
Indiana, on 09 Jun 1855. He married
"Sallie" (Hickman), the
daughter of Benjamin and Julia (Eastes),
on 17 Dec 1874. they were the parents of
eight children: Otis W.; David Frank;
Royal Byron; Harry Warren; Florence M.,
wife of Frederick Davies; Lena S., wife
of Cecil Sharp; Molly Leona, wife of
Douglas Cain; and Wilbur H. Boyer. Sarah
died in Charlestown on 02 Nov 1922 at the
age of sixty-eight years, two months and
twenty days. William died on 08 Apr 1938,
at the age of eight-two years, nine
months and thirty days.
