HENZE
FAMILY PLOT
Photographed by Connie
Nisinger on 10 Jun 2010 |
| Pronounced [hen-tsuh], the
Henze family originated from Prussia -
the area which was eventually dissolved
into Germany. Some of the earliest Henze
immigrants to America came to
Philadelphia between 1730 and 1753, the
same city where Henry Henze was born in
1850. Henry is believed to be the son of
Henry and his first wife Elizabeth Shuler
(Schuler/Schueler). His father was then
married to Mary Ellen and had by her at
least one daughter, Louisa, who was born
in about May of 1870. Henry's second
wife, Mary, appears to have first been
married to Frederick Peters of Hanover,
and had by him five children who were
enumerated in the 1860 Peters household -
and afterwards in the 1870 Henze
household.
Note: The
Henze headstones were photographed 18 Jun
2006 (except where noted) by Connie
Nisinger & contributed to the Moore
& Pilcher website in August, 2011.

| Henry
Henze & Amanda (Moore) |
| Henry, the son of Henry and
Elizabeth (Schueler), was born in
Philadelphia on 18 Apr 1850, and sometime
before 1860 his family was residing in
St. Louis where his younger sister Anna
Marie was born. Here he appears to have
met Cinthia "Amanda" Moore and
the couple were married sometime around
1873 or 1874. A stove molder and father
of five, Henry died in St. Louis on 23
Feb 1925 - nearly sixteen months after
his wife died. Amanda, the daughter of
James U. Moore & Rebecca (Cook), was
born in Harrison Co., Ohio and moved to
Collinsville, Illinois in 1847. She has
yet to be located in the 1860 census, but
was residing in St. Louis in 1870.
Although her headstone indicates she was
born in 1851 and her death certificate
and obituary lists her as 58
years, 1 month and 23 days at the time of
her death (04 May 1851), a letter written by her
father in 1867 records her date of birth
as 03 Mar 1845, and is supported by the 1850 Federal Census.
