| Located inside the
Army Ammunition Plant near Charlestown,
Baird Cemetery is enclosed by a stone
wall. Seen here, in a 2009 video taped by
Mike Hensley, the cemetery remains in
fairly good condition and is situated on
land once owned by Philip Daily who
emigrated to Clark Co., Indiana in 1796.
He and some of his family are laid to
rest here. |

JOHN HUCKLEBERRY
(1769) - 1823 |
| John Huckleberry
was the son of George Huckleberry and
Rosanna (Wise) and was born in
Pennsylvania in 1769. At least two
children were born to him prior to his
marriage on to widow Murdock on 21 Sep
1799: Lavina, who was born 15 Sep 1797
and was the wife of David Copple; and son
Edmund David Huckleberry who was born in
1799 and married Mary W. Daily, the
daughter of Philip and Mary (Wise) in
1822. The marriage to
Mrs. Eliza Murdock, having taken place so
shortly after the birth of Edmund, leads
one to believe his first wife may have
died during or shortly after childbirth.
His children born after his 2nd marriage
were: Christina, wife of Isaac
Barrickman; and David who married first
Ann Martin, and 2nd Sarah Thompson.
As
barely noted on this humble stone, John
died in the year 1823 on or about
September 27th at the age of 53.
