CHARLES D.
PHIPPS
1851-1917 |
| The son
of Daniel Phipps of England and Eliza
(Harvey) of Vermont, Charles was born in
Michigan in 1851 and was the youngest of
their nine children. He was listed as age
8 residing in White Lake, Oakland Co.,
Michigan at which time his father was
widowed, the wife Ella having died the
year before and laid to rest at White
Lake Cemetery. He was married to Ella
Gillick on 04 Jul 1874 in Wixom. At the
time the 1880 census was taken,
they were residing in the Village of
Fenton where Charles was listed as a
photographer and their housheold included
their son Charles and sister-in-law, Cora
A. Gillick. Here he continued to reside
and work as a photographer where he was
listed in 1900 with his son
Edward. In 1910, the last Federal
census for which he was enumerated, he
was listed as a retail merchant of a
music store. He was then residing alone
on Leroy street. Unfortunately his death certificate does not list an
exact date of birth. By this time Charles
had been widowed and his son Edward was
also deceased, and this vital information
evidently was not known to Mrs. L.E.
Gridler, the informant. It does, however,
indicate he died in Detroit on the 15th
of September, 1917.

ELLA L.
(GILLICK)
1853-1897 |
| Ella is
believed to be the daughter of Thomas
Gillick who was born in Ireland in about
1821 and died in Commerce, Oakland Co.,
Michigan on 13 Mar 1889. Her mother,
Adeline, was born on or about 24 Feb 1829
and died 12 Oct 1873 and laid to rest at
Wixom Cemetery in Commerce Twp., Oakland
Co., MI. Prior to Ella's marriage to
Charles in Wixom on 03 Jul 1874, she was
enumerated with her family in Detroit,
Michigan in 1860, and in 1870 was living in
Commerce. Ella and Charles were the
parents of two known children: Charles R.
Phipps who was born about 1878 and
enumerated with them in the 1880 census residing in
Fenton Village, Genesee Co., Michigan;
and son Edward L. who was born in 1889
and died at the age of twenty-three. Ella
died at the age of forty-four in
