| The son of Ryan Richard
Smith and Sarah E. (Dulaban), E.O. was
born in Smithton, Pettis Co., MO on 23
Feb 1875. He married Hattie Belle Sutton,
daughter of Benjamin and Rachel on 18 Jul
1897 in Warsaw, Benton Co., Missouri. Hattie was born on
09 Feb 1873 in Bethany, Benton Co.,
Missouri and was the mother of their
seven children: Odes, Olin, Norva, Glenn,
Leora, Ruby and Doris Smith. She died at
the age of eighty-eight on 20 May 1964 in
Fort Collins, Colorado.
E.O. lived
more than seven years after the death of
his wife. In June of 1971, he was honored
as the Senior Citizen of the Month. The
article in part states: "In 1918 he
grew and threshed 10,000 bushels of
wheat, hauled it to the elevator in a
Studebaker Wagon which held 100 bushels,
brim full, and used four to six
horses."
According
to the article, those were the best years
of his life. He died about six months
after the article was published on 23 Dec
1971 at the age of ninety-six years and
ten months.
