| The son of James Wagner and
Sarah (Peck), John was born in Geneva,
Cayuga Co., New York on 03 Jan 1819. He
came to Calhoun Co., Michigan at a young
age and at the age of about thirty-two,
married Cephrona Rhodes, the daughter of
Charles and Betsey (Peters). They were
the parents of: Charles F., John S.,
Estella, and James Reuben Wagner. After
his wife's death in 1864, John married
the following year and took as his 2nd
wife, Eliza Leach who had first been
married to Aaron Weaver. John and Eliza
were the parents of two daughters, Fannie
who died at age one, and Belle at the age
of nine. In 1879 John was then united
in marriage with Clarissa Adelia
"Delia" Walker, who may have
previously been married to Oren Mather*.
John died at the home of his
granddaughter, Cora Elna, wife of Orion
Eber Walker, on 11 Jan 1912, at the age
of ninety-three and eight days.
Note:
John's obituary states Matthews,
but believe he was Oren Mather who was
born in NY in Jun 1856 and later married
Ettie C. Smith, daughter of Amos Smith
and Phebe Root.
