Mary
"Priscilla" Broughton was
the daughter of George and Sarah
(Mathieson) and was born in Ontario
on 12 Mar 1870. Her father was born
in Lincolnshire, England where he was
raised and educated. In 1865, he
emigrated to Minto Township in the
province of Ontario, Canada. A year
later he married Sarah Ann Mathieson
who was born in Blanford, Ontario on
01 Jan 1840. George purchased 150
acres of land on lot 15, concession
12, and cleared the land for farming.
He was School Trustee for over twenty
years, a Liberal in politics, and a
member of the Methodist church.
George
and Sarah were the parents of:
Margaret, wife of William Gordon;
Mary Priscilla, wife of Thomas Kerr;
Joseph Mathieson, who married Myrtle
Iva Shipley; George, who married
Isabella McEachern; John Thomas; and
Elizabeth Ann, wife of Hector B.
McConnell.
Mary
"Priscilla," pictured here
in her older years, was united in
marriage with Thomas Kerr at the age
of twenty-two on 23 Mar 1892. They
were enumerated in the 1901 census
residing in Minto Township with and
their two oldest sons.
Their
first child, Gordon Robert, was born
in Minto Twp., on 28 Nov 1893 and
passed away in 1967. He married Emma
Morrison and later removed to
Kitchener where they were the parents
of three sons and two daughters.
Their second child, George Thomas
Kerr, was born in Minto Twp. on 23
Feb 1895 and passed away in 1931. He
married Mildred S. Bell, and was the
father of three daughters. Thomas and
Priscilla's youngest child, Norman
John Kerr was born in February of
1902 and passed away on 13 Sep 1974.
He was the husband of Melinda
Catherine "Elsie" Liesemer
and the father of three sons and five
daughters.
Thomas
Kerr, who was the son of Robert and
Margaret (Arbuckle) died in
Harriston, Wellington Co., Ontario on
21 Aug 1930; and Priscilla on 09 Mar
1949. They are laid to rest at
Harriston Cemetery.
Note:
George Broughton's year of birth is
inconsistent among the various
records, but the 1901 census list it
as 13 Apr 1837. It should also be
noted Mathieson is also spelled
Mathewson.
